100% Reliable Staple - Careful with your water though!

Mountain House Spaghetti with Meat Sauce is a nice, reliable, yummy meal. Not too spicy, not too bland, just right after a nice day of cross-country skiing, for instance. HOWEVER... It also happens to be one of the least reliable meals for dry volume-to-water ratio. You'll notice as you go to open up your #10 can that the freeze-dried spaghetti comes out in chunks, with some noodles and sauce globbed together. These chunks don't reliably fill up a measuring cup though, so you sometimes have lots of air and can put in too much water! TIPS: - As always, gently roll the #10 can around upside down for 30 seconds or so to get the finer sauce powder to come up to the top - If you can pre-measure your servings *by weight* into an old Mountain House pouch or (even better) an old Wise pouch (easier to eat out of) before going on your trip you'll have better results - Don't break up the chunks. Doing so will just make the noodles even smaller and they're already pretty small. It also messes up the noodle-to-sauce ratio which is usually spot on. - If you're measuring by volume from a #10 can on the trail aim for 15-20% less water than recommended at first. At your 4-minute mark, re-evaluate and you can add more water at that time. At the 4-minute mark the sauce should be just a smidge more watery than you would want to eat it at. - If you put in too much water vent some steam by leaving a small part of the zipper unzipped. If it's really sloppy, you can add more dry mix, or some Mountain House Ground Beef (my preferred) if you have it handy. It's a good idea to have a small bag of minute rice handy even if you don't bring anything else, it can be added to anything (including spaghetti) to soak up water excess. - As always, I recommend you help keep the heat in by using dollar-store insulated lunch bags.
