CSA First Aid Kits
To harmonize workplace first aid requirements in different jurisdictions throughout Canada, certain provinces have adapted their Occupational Health and Safety Act in accordance with CSA Z1220-17 first aid kit standard developed by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).
CSA Workplace First Aid Kits are classified as follows:
Type 1: Personal First Aid Kit
An organization shall provide a Type 1: Personal First Aid Kit to all workers who work in isolation or those who do not otherwise have access to a workplace first aid kit.
Type 2: Basic First Aid Kit
A Type 2: Basic First Aid Kit is suitable for most workplaces with a low risk work environment. The Basic First Aid Kit has three sizes (small, medium, and large) which is dependent on the maximum number of workers per workplace per shift.
Type 3: Intermediate First Aid Kit
A Type 3: Intermediate First Aid Kit is suitable for workplaces with higher risk level work environments. A Type 3 kit contains all of the items in a Type 2 kit plus additional items to meet the needs of workplaces with an increased risk of first aid events in a higher risk environment. Intermediate First Aid Kits also have three sizes (small, medium, and large) which are dependent on the maximum number of workers per workplace per shift.
