    Ontario First Aid Kit Requirements – Choose CSA Z1220-17 for Compliance

    Businesses in Ontario must adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act’s Regulation 1101 under Section 3 of the WSIB Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA). However, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) now accepts CSA Z1220-17–compliant first aid kits as an alternative to the original Regulation 1101 kits.

    • Full WSIB Acceptance: CSA Z1220-17–compliant kits meet or exceed the requirements of Regulation 1101.

    • Modern, Up-to-Date Standard: CSA Z1220-17 is recognized across Canada, making it ideal for businesses that operate in multiple provinces.

    • Simplified Compliance: You can select a kit type (Personal, Basic, or Intermediate) that aligns with the size and risk level of your workplace—and still be fully covered under Ontario law.

    Selecting the Right CSA Kit for Your Workplace

    While Regulation 1101 traditionally outlines different kits based on the number of employees (Sections 8, 9, 10, etc.), CSA Z1220-17 offers a streamlined approach. Below is a general guideline to help you choose a CSA kit suited to your workplace size and risk level:

    • Type 1 – Personal First Aid Kits

      • Ideal for 1–2 employees, remote or lone workers, or any situation where immediate access to a larger kit is not feasible.

    • Type 2 – Basic First Aid Kits

      • Best for smaller teams and low- to moderate-risk environments (e.g., offices, retail).

      • Typically covers up to 25 employees effectively, depending on the workplace risk assessment.

    • Type 3 – Intermediate First Aid Kits

      • Recommended for medium to larger teams or higher-risk operations (e.g., light manufacturing, warehouses).

      • Often suitable for up to 50 employees, or more if the environment carries increased hazards.

    Note: For very large workplaces (e.g., 200+ employees) or specialized high-risk operations, multiple kits or stations may be required. We can assist in selecting the correct quantity and type.
