Saskatchewan Regulation First Aid Kits
Overview of Saskatchewan’s Requirements
- Saskatchewan outlines minimum contents for different classes of first aid kits, similar in structure to CSA classifications.
- Employers must ensure that first aid supplies are adequate and appropriate for the risks in their workplace.
Everyone in the workplace has a legal responsibility for safety. We offer kits that meet & exceed minimum first aid requirements outline in Table 1 of Saskatchewan’s OHS (2004). To carry out health and safety within the workplace, everyone must know what their duties are, have the ability to carry out the duties, and have the required knowledge in their field. Section 3-79 of The Saskatchewan Employment Act outlines the increase in penalty amounts which act as a strong deterrent to those who would ignore the Act and place workers in danger. Maximum fine for individuals is $500,000 and for corporations is $1,500,000.
How CSA Kits Comply
- CSA Z1220 kit classifications parallel Saskatchewan’s approach.
- Purchasing a CSA-compliant kit often exceeds provincial item counts, providing a straightforward way to comply.
Differences to Note
- Saskatchewan does not explicitly require “CSA-labeled” kits. However, a CSA Z1220 kit is generally considered best practice.
- Always match the CSA kit size/class to the actual number of employees on site and their risk level.
